Imprint Out Loud

Episode #55: The Art of Listening Well

Listen Later

In biblical counselling, listening well is essential to developing redemptive, loving relationships and demonstrates obedience to the second greatest commandment—loving our neighbour as ourselves. In this episode of Imprint Out Loud, Tommie is joined by Deepak Reju, pastor at Ogletown Baptist Church in Delaware, as they discuss the foundational skill of listening well in counselling and discipling. They identify common obstacles to good listening while emphasising that these are practical areas Christians can work on as part of spiritual growth. They outline characteristics of good listeners and offer a practical self-assessment exercise where listeners rate themselves on a 1–10 scale and then ask someone close to them for honest feedback. Effective biblical counselling doesn’t require professional credentials but begins with the fundamental Christian virtue of listening well, which serves as a marker of God’s grace working in our lives and enables us to be faithful ambassadors of Christ in all spheres of life.
