What comes to mind when you hear the word “idol”? From a secular perspective, it is positioned as a positive thing (i.e., “Who is your next American Idol?”), whereas in scripture, it is a huge no-no. God commands us to never have idols and, of course, to never worship them. And while most of us aren’t likely bowing down to golden calves, if we get honest, we all probably have a few idols in our lives: money, our bodies, our careers and aspirations, our relationship status, celebrities, social media… even our homes and families can become idols if we aren’t careful. This week, Lisa and Ali define what idols are, what worship looks like, and how we can identify those red flags that indicate we may be placing other things above (or alongside) God—the only One who deserves our worship.
