Chasing Wonder with Taylor Hughes

Episode 58: Hollywood Prop Builder Jim Logiudice is About to Break over building jet packs for the Rocketeer, Making Pianos for Lady Gaga and Refurbishing Disneyland Memorabilia.

Listen Later

Jim Logiudice helped shape my childhood and he had no idea the impact he had. When I was a kid, movies like the Rocketeer inspired me to want to create models and props. I remember building a Rocketeer helmet and jet pack when I was a kid. How cool is it that 27 years later I would be recording this episode with the guy who built the actual prop. We geek out about prop building and then get very real about the reality of a live in the industry. I was so encourage and inspired by Jim’s perspective on what really matters in life and in business.

In this episode we talk about:

  • His projects inspired me as a kid
  • Finding out people got paid to make models
  • Trying to get a job instead of college
  • Walking into the studio and getting hired
  • Working on Flubber and Armagetton
  • Deadlines and quick tunrarounds
  • Being done with the industry
  • Why we don’t live in LA
  • When 9 to 5 becomes 5 to 9
  • Vintage cars are magic
  • Working on old houses
  • Restoring original Disneyland props
  • Building the Rocketeer Jet Pack
  • Taking consistent work over exciting projects
  • Why people get out of this business
  • The speed of production makes it tough for people to break in
  • Making Ice picks for David Blaine
  • Getting burnt out
  • puppets for fun

… and saving some of the joy for yourself
