On Christmas Eve, 1945, a fire destroyed the Sodder family home. At the time, it was occupied by George and Jennie Sodder, and nine of their ten children. During the fire, George, Jennie, and four of the nine children escaped. No one can say for certain what happened to the Sodders' five children, but their family never saw them again, and their remains were not found in the ashes of their home.
