Episode 6: 40k Tactics: The Shooting Phase

Listen Later

In this episode, we are going to talk about shooting. We discuss the different types of firepower, how to "mathhammer," and target prioritization.

Show Notes

Why 40k has become a shooting game

* Assault is not as powerful as it used to be
* Weapon profiles are stronger

What armies are known as "shooting armies"?

How to classify the types of firepower

Threat range of shooting units; move plus range

Damage potential:

* Shots or volume of fire
* Strength
* AP value
* Special rules

Target Prioritization

Identifying units or vehicles that will because you trouble over other units.

Once identified, you have to take into consideration the effort it will take to kill it.

Efficiency of effort: may have a high priority target, but your weapons should be shooting at their most efficient target.

“Mathhammer"

To calculate: probability To Hit * probability To Wound* probability to Fail Save * probability for FNP = probability to Cause a Wound.

Example: 10 Tactical Marines with bolters shooting at 10 Tactical Marines

To Hit  is 3+ (.67) * To Wound is 4+ (.5) * Fail a Save is 3+ armor (.33) equals .11 for each marine.

10 Tactical marines equals 1.1 Wounds caused. 2.2 wounds if in rapid fire.

These are the average amount of wounds.

You should know roughly what their units are capable of.

Sometimes you will prioritize a unit living over completing the mission.

Target priority can shift over time, depending on the mission.
