Matt grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
We actually met during an ultramarathon race in Chicago and at the time didn't know that we were both doctors! Matt is so kind and disarming that he could have a conversation with anyone (this probably aids in his profession of being a doctor).
That being said, he has faced some trials and tribulations. He initially was going through a psychiatry residency program and had to make a tough decision to change specialities two years into the program. When he did this, he had to take a full year off of medicine, not knowing if he would match into family medicine. Not only did he match in Family Medicine for his residency program, the program was also located in Chicago which is where he is practicing now. It was so unique to talk through this difficult time in Matt's career and it is something that many people can relate to.
