Cannabis legalisation has really changed the landscape of Global Drugs Policy. Despite the UNODC advising for the legalisation of drugs or decriminalisation of illicit substances to help reduce the harms of the war on drugs and mass incarceration. The criminalisation of drugs was based upon racist fallacies that have damaged and perpetuated hate across the world. There are no scientific or rational reasons to keep cannabis and other substances illegal, yet we thrive of the harm that we cause by doing so. Is it necessary for individuals to spend life in prison because of a joint? Do societies benefit from the criminalisation of drugs? How would our economies fair if we managed to legalise and effectively tax drugs?
