On this week’s episode of #RisingYouth Podcast, Jade does 2 interviews highlighting 2 bright projects focusing on helping increase awareness of Indigenous teachings in communities and the struggles of setting up a grassroots project in a remote community.
Fox and Alexandra Nordstrom organized and facilitated a four-day summer program for Indigenous youth on Poundmaker and Little Pine First Nations that focused on the intersection between arts, science, and conservation from an Indigenous perspective. Engaging students in a collaborative learning model that uses the Cree tradition of using land as a pedagogy for scientific learning, Janay and Alexandra created a space for Indigenous youth to explore their Cree culture and Indigenous ways of learning.
Carly Chartier helped organize several workshops in Selkirk, Manitoba to teach youth about the intergeneration art of moccasin making. Carly expressed the need for youth to experience their traditional teachings and art in a way thats not only helps youth with their identity but is also paving the way to intergenerational healing.
