Thank you all for joining us as we track down the missing skull from Banaba. Today’s episode will begin in Chicago, after I’ve returned from the islands. We will be learning about the process of repatriation with the Field Museum’s Repatriation Director, Helen Robbins.
Repatriation is the process of returning of artifacts and human remains that typically were taken from communities without consent by settlers or colonists. This process is difficult and paperwork-intensive, even for communities that know a museum is holding the remains of their elder. The process is exponentially more challenging when the remains’ whereabouts are a mystery.
Helen Robbins will teach us a little bit more about that process and share her tips for undertaking a search of this magnitude!
