Aging Strong with Hugo

Episode 6 - The power of breathing

Listen Later

In this episode, I explore one of the most underestimated tools for health, performance, and recovery: breathing.

We breathe more than 20,000 times a day, yet most of us do it poorly—and often under stress. Drawing from personal experimentation, training experience, and key influences such as James Nestor, Daniel Lieberman, and Dr. Alan Mandell, I break down how conscious breathing can affect posture, sleep quality, emotional regulation, and physical performance.

I share practical observations from kettlebell and mace training, explain how breathing patterns influence strength and endurance, and reflect on tools like nasal strips, mouth taping, and simple nostril-breathing techniques. This is not a claim that breathing “fixes everything,” but a grounded exploration of how it can significantly support recovery, calm the nervous system, and improve daily function.

If stress, poor sleep, or tension are limiting your performance—or your quality of life—this episode offers practical insights worth experimenting with.
