Ken Friedman had an illustrious career in the music industry for over twenty years. He managed bands such as The Smiths and UB40 and worked as a promoter for U2 and many other great bands in San Francisco during the 80s and 90s. With a mid-life crisis in full swing at 40 years of age, Ken traded in the rock n' roll life of a music promoter to open up his own bar and restaurant, The Spotted Pig, with co-owner and chef April Bloomfield. The Spotted Pig has held its Michelin star for 10 years and Ken and April have gone on to forge one of the industry’s most effective relationships. Their empire has expanded to The Breslin, The John Dory Oyster Bar, Tosca Café, and Salvation Burger. This year Ken won The James Beard Award for outstanding restaurateur – an incredible achievement for someone who only came in to the industry at 40 years of age.
