Really From is a podcast of the band Really From hosted by me, Chris Lee-Rodriguez, where I talk to musicians and artists on identity, culture, and inhabiting white spaces in the music and art scene.
On this episode, we have poet and writer Melissa Lozada–Oliva! Melissa is the daughter of Guatemalan and Colombian immigrants. She is the author of Peluda (Button Poetry 2017) and the forth-coming novel-in-verse Dreaming of You (Astra House 2021). She cohosts a podcast called Say More. Her work is featured or forthcoming in the Yale Review, Muzzle, Breakbeat Poets, Redivider Magazine and more. She holds her MFA from NYU & lives in Brooklyn, NY. In our conversation, we talked about her new book, latinidad, and being seen as an artist. There are also unintentional spoilers for the movie Minari, so please skip ahead if you haven't seen the movie yet.
