My Guess at the Macro Plot:  The Alethi and Parshendi have to unite to unlock their full magical potential in order to defeat an ancient evil that resurfaces.

There was something watching Elhokar in the darkness that night.

Galivar was assassinated by the Parshendi because he was too effective at uniting the Alethi.

Shallan’s father found the “Null Marble.”
