Episode 6.23 /// Featuring Uuxe + Gollden and Yann Novak

Listen Later

In today's program my two featured albums cover vastly different ends of the ambient spectrum, and I’m totally there for it — one laying the foundation for peace and serenity, and the other stirring you up towards awareness and vigilance. In the first hour, my first featured album comes from the collaboration between Australian artist Uuxe and Canadian ambient artist Gollden, who’ve put together a serene EP that is ripe for the times. And later in the program, a poignant new EP from Los Angeles based multidisciplinarian artist Yann Novak with striking reflection of our current social, technical, and political landscape.

Plus our conversational topic for today: music and social change. What are some notable albums or songs that come to mind that stirred up tangible signs of social change? And how do you think Ambient music could play a role in affecting our cultural landscape? Let’s strike up a conversation!

Also up ahead, new music from Willebrant, Eblo, Akhira Sano and more. Strap in and make yourself comfortable, join us for the next two hours for global ambient music, on The Stolace Relay Station.

Featured album /// “Dupont” by Uuxe + Gollden

New from ambient promoter Age of Leisure comes a collaboration that will guide you to a state of meditative bliss with this three-song EP. “Dupont” is a new release from Australian artist Uuxe and Toronto ambient artist Gollden, along with additional instrumentation provided by Canadian artist Nirvana Sagar. Created over the cold winter months in Toronto, Uuxe and Gollden blended together stunning ambient guitar and keyboards, mesmerizing singing bowl layers, and dreamy saxophone lines to create a work that is perfect for a short meditation sit or unwinding and letting go of the day. The vibe feels like a cascade of serenity pouring over me when I invite this music in, and I highly encourage you to do the same. “Dupont” by Uuxe + Gollden is available now on limited edition cassette, on most streaming music services, and at https://ageofleisure.bandcamp.com.

Featured album /// “Continuity” by Yann Novak

Out now on Room 40 Records is a consequential three-song EP that ought not be overlooked. Los Angeles based multidisciplinary artist Yann Novak has masterfully created a poignant work that reflects our times and serves as a sobering lens through which to view our modern era. “Continuity” is a stunning blend of field recordings and looped synthesizer phrasings, depicting the often paradoxical and nefarious sides of technology that we’ve become dependent upon — from the illusion of freedom and privacy, to government transparency, social media, and more. With a wash of abated noise, near-dystopian ambient layers, obscured digital recordings, and ghostly ear candy, I find “Continuity” to be a fantastic backdrop for which to reflect on the state of the world in which we live. “Continuity” by Yann Novak is available now on most streaming music services as well as at https://yannnovak.bandcamp.com.
