For today’s episode of Sippin' Tea w/BhD, Ty and Daphne welcome back Jamiere Abney, a Senior Assistant Dean of Admissions and Coordinator of Outreach for Opportunity & Inclusion at Colgate University. Together they use a critical lens to discuss the college admissions scandal, reparations, criminal justice, and the Boeing controversy. Specifically, they provide a brief overview of the college cheating scandal (7:47), discuss legal advantages within the college admissions process (10:50), and the potential consequences and implications of the scandal for the accused and for students from marginalized backgrounds (17:35). They then have a conversation about improving the college admissions process for all (26:48), including a discussion of fit (31:45) and increasing access for adult learners (42:42).
