King David was a man after God’s own heart. But, before he was a man, he was a boy. And, it seems that even as a boy he was still after God’s heart. We clearly see this when he, in complete faithfulness and reliance in and on God, goes to do battle against the Giant named Goliath.

Of course, this story has been totally twisted by prosperity preachers who would have you believe that all things are possible for you and that you can do anything you desire. This is dangerous because all things are possible not through ourselves but through God. Secondly, the very idea of this story is that David could not defeat Goliath on his own. He needed God’s help.

Today, as we look at this battle between David and Goliath, we will learn to better trust in God and rely on Christ for all things, including our salvation and sanctification.
