What happens when alcohol takes us further than we wanted to go and keeps us longer than we wanted to stay? Pastor Eric Kuehner guides us on a discussion of drunkenness.
** Proverbs 20:1**
"Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise".
** Proverbs 23:29-35**
29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? 30 Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. 31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! 32 In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things. 34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. 35 “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?”
** Matthew 12:34-35**
34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
** Gen. 9:20-21**
20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded[a] to plant a vineyard.21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.
The danger in overindulgence in alcohol can trap you in a lifestyle of dependance.
The more a person consumes the more a person loses.
“We can’t be filled with the Spirit and filled with wine at the same time”
Ephesians 5:18-21 (NIV)
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
