On This Episode:
We’ve all heard people say that money can't buy happiness, which is usually something said by those who’ve never had to decide between buying eggs or keeping the lights on. Let’s be real because money buys peace of mind and the relief you feel when you aren't constantly stressed about survival. We tell ourselves that if we can just reach that next tax bracket or see another comma in our bank account, the anxiety will finally stop. For a while, it actually does, but there’s a weird side to wealth that nobody really talks about. We can call it the hedonic treadmill, and it basically means the fancy stuff that felt like a miracle yesterday just feels normal today. Eventually, you’re standing in a bigger house and driving a faster car, but you’re still the exact same person you were before. You’ve upgraded your lifestyle, but you might have forgotten to work on your life. We find out, usually the hard way, that while money is great at protecting your world, it’s not great at filling it. It can buy you the most expensive bed on the planet, but it can’t buy you a good night's sleep. With all that being said, can money actually buy happiness?
