The guys dig into the world of romantic comedies with the one that started them all, Woody Allen's 1977 film Annie Hall. They discuss the interesting ways that Allen examines memory through his character of Alvy Singer, what the film might be saying about the different ways to not only look at art but the world itself - Alvy's cynical over-analysis or the titular Annie (played by Diane Keaton) and her wide-eyed wonder, and the power of a great montage. The film pioneered an entire genre and probably did it better than it's been done since, but the inevitable conundrum of Annie Hall's having ousted Star Wars for the 1977 Best Picture Academy Award might cloud some judgment about "what movies are all about." The guys also dig into their own dating histories and think about what movie characters besides Annie might be their soul mates.
