Wrestling Obituary

Episode 7 - Building Toys, Burying Stars

Listen Later

This week on The Obituary: REUINTED & IT FEELS SO GOOD! It's the return of GirlOnCinema as she joins BluKroovy & JBF to discuss just how overly commercialized the modern pro wrestling product has become and why that's bad for business. Professional wrestling used to be all about building actual stars to draw money for their companies. But thanks to Vince McMahon and WWE, it's all about the merch sales now. Toys, T-shirts, replica title belts; Wrestling is now just an endless supply of products and we, as fans, are just meant to consume, consume and consume some more! But maybe that's a bad thing? Maybe someone needs to draw a line to keep the value of the product just as high as its volume. And Wrestling Obituary is here to draw that line. The gang also reviews AEW RAMPAGE from October 8, 2021, and Escape The UnderTaker, an interactive WWE-themed special from Netflix. SpOoOoky! But you know what's even more scary than that? Sean Ross Sapp. And the gang has a VERY special message for everyone's favorite "wrestling journalist" at the end of this episode. So enjoy! And don't get TOO scared.
