In today’s episode I interviewed Dr. Dariel "DT" Henry, an educator, author, mentor, podcast host, professor, and change agent in Higher Education. He shares his inspiring story about how he went from drop prevention to Dr. Henry.
Biography:
Dr. Dariel "DT" Henry is an educator, author, mentor, podcast host, professor, and change agent in Higher Education. He currently serves as the Director of TRIO at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Massachusetts, managing 3 TRIO programs and a one million dollar budget.
He is also a professor of Criminal Justice, Sociology, Organizational Behavior. Prior to his leadership in TRIO, Dr. Henry was an Academic Advisor at Dean College where he implemented strategies that increased retention of football student-athletes by 50%. In addition, DT earned his doctoral degree at Johnson and Wales University in Educational Leadership in 2016. His dissertation topic titled: Effective Strategies for Recruiting African American Males into Undergraduate Teacher Education Programs led him to join Regis College in 2018. At Regis, DT's research helped build the Regis Diverse Educators full-tuition scholarship program, and he recruits five students each year to major in education.
In October 2020, he released his first book, "College Debunked: How to Go College on Football Scholarship." The book focuses on the academic perspective of the recruiting and admissions process. He is currently working on his second book tentatively titled "From Dropout Prevention to Doctor": 5 Strategies I learned growing up in Miami, Florida, that helped me become Dr. Henry.
Dr. Henry's research interests include recruiting diverse educators, inclusion, cultural proficiency and relativism, social justice, and mass incarceration. His hobbies include working out, playing drums, and hosting his Swag Bender with Dr. Darie "DT" Henry Podcast.
