This week in the Underground was all about hip-hop, reggae and soul...and math...and science...and English. Jaewar King, founder and front man of the band Vibe Riot talks about growing up in Virginia Beach and shares some insights into integrating art, career and community in Charlottesville.

Episode 7: Jaewar King (Vibe Riot)

Noises Down the Hall is a podcast that invites local artists in Central Virginia, primarily musicians and songwriters, to share stories of their high school days. These stories will hopefully illustrate how varying forms of education, traditional and alternative, have nurtured some young artists and provided obstacles for other artists to overcome. In a larger scope, the conversations will explore creativity in adolescents from a look back at the artist's past to draw lines of connection to who they are and what they do in the present. With any luck, these conversations might shed some light on how today’s educators and parents might better support and encourage the emerging artist in their home or classroom. As a way to provide some entertainment value for the podcast, each guest will perform either an acoustic version of a song that inspired them from their high school years or a song they wrote as a teenager to be followed by a brief discussion of the song or the arts and what it meant to them back in their younger days.
