Episode 7 - The Surprising Science Behind Kindness And Happiness With Gillian Mandich (Part 1 of 2)

Listen Later

Welcome to JoeVolunteer Radio! This is your weekly dose of inspiration, of humans helping other humans beings and showing you that this place is really a great place to live.   It's all about HUMAN KINDNESS. WOW!!!

This episode is with Gillian Mandich, a happiness researcher at Western University in Ontario, Canada. We talked about the actual science behind happiness.

You can find out about her, and sign up for her e-book on how to be happier at www.GillianMandich.com.

We KNOW we feel good when we help others, and now we get to know why that is. Gillian took us behind why that happens.

If you want to know how to be happier, and you want to be the type of person who shows more kindness, then there are actual scientifically PROVEN ways to make it happen.

We geeked out a bit. We talked about dopamine, seratonin and other chemical cocktails going on in our system when kindness and happiness occur.

When Gillian talked about the kindest thing someone had done for her, we were able to go "behind the curtain," to see what happened in her mind--and the mind of the doer--to show how it affects us as human beings. What's cool is that the giver and receiver of the A-OK (act of kindness) aren't the only ones that benefit!

We also talked about what you can do to actually increase your happiness, and had a serious conversation about getting out of depression, and what to do if you feel you don't have any happiness.

It was enlightening to say the least. We love that we get to introduce you to Gillian Mandich!   Your hosts:   Chip Franks--the founder of JoeVolunteer. Husband, dad, author, and entrepreneur.   Tim Wambach--founder of the Keep on Keeping On Foundation. Public speaker, husband, and soon-to-be dad.   Like the show? Give us a review on iTunes!
