LaTerra McDaniels, the former board secretary and event coordinator for the Center of Sexual Positivity, and Sabrina Elizondo join the podcast today to discuss all things sex. We discuss body image, sex positivity, porn, sex education, along with our own personal experiences.
LaTerra McDaniels - "My name “LaTerra” means the Earth and it always made me feel like my purpose on the planet must be more than just working my corporate job. I have a mission to save the earth and its occupants by any means necessary. My idea of saving the world is different than most and quite unconventional. I believe I can save the earth through sex positivity. Ever since I can remember, people have felt comfortable telling me about their sex lives. Let’s face it, sex is a subject which never gets boring and there’s always more to learn and explore. I never thought it was something I could do professionally until 2013 when I started volunteering with the Center for Positive Sexuality in Los Angeles. Initially I was a behind the scenes volunteer helping with events and social media but after a few years I became a volunteer sex educator for the Center speaking on panels about body image, consent, polyamory, and BDSM. One of the most valuable nuggets of knowledge I learned from working with the Center and their 8 Dimensions of Positive Sexuality is there are multiple ways of learning. I am a sex educator through life experience, studying tons of research on sex, going to conferences, taking classes anywhere I could afford. The knowledge I possess and express comes from years of being open to absorb and explore whatever excites me. When it comes to sex education my passions are self-love, body positivity, eco-sexuality, and advocating for performers in the adult film industry. I am proud of the work I’ve created like my application of the 8 Dimensions of Positive Sexuality to environmentalism called How Being Sex Positive Can Save the World which I gave a talk about at the UC Santa Cruz Ecosex Symposium in 2017. I also presented RT This: How Cyberbullying is Impacting Women of Color in Porn with two colleagues from the adult industry who experienced cyberbullying first hand. I was also invited to speak at the AVN Adult Expo in 2018 about Sex and Cannabis and People of Color in the adult novelty industry. As you can see I like to dabble in a lot of areas, it keeps life fun and fresh. Ultimately I am a lover, writer, sex educator, public speaker and high priestess as I also officiate weddings. My mission is to encourage every human to love themselves, express their truth and continue to learn and grow."
