It was on this date in 28 BC, that a sunspot was observed by Han dynasty astronomers during the reign of Emperor Cheng of Han, one of the earliest dated sunspot observations in China.

May 10, 1497, Amerigo Vespucci allegedly left Cádiz for his first voyage to the New World.

It was on this date in 1503, that Christopher Columbus visited the Cayman Islands and named them Las Tortugas after the numerous turtles there.
