Psalm 122 begins with joy: “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” This is not merely an invitation into a building; it is an invitation into fellowship. It is citing the gladness of belonging, of being welcomed into a space where we are sustained by one another. And it ends with a pledge: “I will seek your prosperity.” That is the heartbeat of the community. The pledge is to sustain the well-being of others. Not because they are like us, but because without them, we are incomplete.
