Joseph was a righteous man. He was faithful to the law, committed to doing what was right. When he discovered Mary was with child, the law gave him options, and none of them were easy. His heart must have been torn. He loved her, yet he believed he had been betrayed. And so he resolved to “divorce her quietly,” not out of anger, but out of compassion. He sought the most merciful path he could see. But here’s the other perspective: even the most righteous among us can only see as far as our human perception allows.
Joseph saw a problem. God saw a promise. Joseph saw a scandal. God saw salvation. Joseph saw a reason to step away. God saw a reason to step in.
We too can see what God sees and has in store when we experience a shift in consciousness.
