"Why are you so upset?"
"Don't be so emotional!"
"You're too sensitive!"
If any of these statements sound familiar, you may want to listen to this episode.
I've often been labeled as "overly sensitive," "too sensitive," "overly emotional...." - and it hasn't been a compliment!
Being sensitive and shedding tears was something I felt ashamed and embarrassed of!
But I had a realization recently as I helped my son process a recent loss: being sad, or expressing emotion about something that moves and touches you - is NOT a bad thing. It simply means that you care.
In a world where I feel like many people are either unwilling to care and feel deeply, are simply numb, and/or don't feel comfortable expressing emotions such as sadness, hurt, grief, joy...I'll happily accept a label of "too sensitive" if it means that I care, feel and love deeply.
We should always be who we are. And if you're someone who DOES feel deeply about something - then I encourage you to express that in whatever way feels authentic for you - without any shame, embarrassment or regret.
