In September 2022, Chancellor Matos Rodriguez announced the recipients of the newly established Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative (or BRESI) awards. 126 projects across CUNY will be funded from a $10 million gift from the Mellon Foundation with the goal of reimagining and expanding the study of race and ethnicity.
