Episode 79: Energy Management with Cori Orak

Listen Later

In this episode, Krista catches up with her mental health buddy Cori Orak. Cori is an extroverted-introvert, an empath, a fellow anxiety sufferer, and a mental health advocate. She is also the co-owner of the artisanal travel bag company, Ethnotek. Krista and Cori were introduced to each other by Emory Hall and, although Cori has been living in Bali since the pandemic began, she has kept in touch with Krista regularly and supported her through her struggles with anxiety.

In today’s show, Cori opens up about the loneliness of being an entrepreneur and explains how the pandemic has caused additional stress in her personal and professional life. She describes how she has learned to give herself permission to feel emotional and vulnerable and has made an effort to understand and manage her energy. As an empath (and a woman who works with her husband), Cori understands the need to spend some time alone. She also knows how to say no to people and set boundaries that prevent others from making unreasonable demands on her energy and time. To help others benefit from her experience in life and business, Cori has started mentoring startups and holding accountability meet-ups. In her capacity as a mentor, she advises small business owners on how to plan for and handle sustainable growth. Both Cori and Krista advocate for a more balanced approach to business. They understand the importance of leaving space for themselves and taking measures to avoid the burnout and exhaustion that can occur as a result of chronic overwork.
