Episode 8 – Charlie McCready – “Narcissistic Damage Control...or the Children Pay the Price”
In this episode, I spoke with Charlie McCready, a coach specializing in parental alienation. He has been dealing with alienation for 14 years, having experienced this himself personally, and also through helping parents who are suffering from alienation today. Charlie has a deep understanding of alienation and the ways in which this impacts our children, ourselves and our families. Charlie’s view is that parental alienation is both traumatic and counter intuitive and that all parents need support to get through this experience. He believes that there are 3 Key Areas that you need to address to have the best chances of rebuilding relationships with your child. First, you need to understand alienation from your child’s perspective. Secondly, you need to adapt your tactics when dealing with the alienator to minimise the damage they are doing to your child and thirdly, you need to restore your own mental and emotional resilience both for your own wellbeing and also because this enables you to best help your child.
Charlie has developed the 9 Step Program to help guide parents in ways to rebuild relationships with their children and to avoid the mistakes that we unintentionally make and which can push our kids away from us. He describes the Program as a crash course in learning about and dealing with alienation. The Program helps you to understand how support your alienated child as well as learning how to address your own feelings of grief, guilt, isolation and fear, all of which impact how you help your child.
