This week we are talking about the 1997 film "Gattaca" as we start to round out Season 1: 90s Sci-Fi and Fantasy Films. It's got everything that a 90s sci-fi film needs: noir themes, social commentary, amorphous space goings-on, voice-over narration, and flat female characters. It's a twisty turny journey from first-time writer/director Andrew Niccol that brings up questions about human potential and (most importantly) SPACE. As a special gift to this world, this film is also the reason that we are graced with the presence of one Maya Hawke. Overall, we liked this film even though we have some specific notes on the execution. The key takeaway: eugenics are bad, kids.
