Listen Later

Aleah Denae discusses the reality of the world for black Americans. In light of the George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Sean Reed and Ahmaud Arbery deaths at the hands of present and past white police officers, she discusses how the media has managed to normalize the circulation of images and videos of black people's dead bodies and final moments. She discusses how this act of raising awareness results in continuing the spread of black trauma and she provides alternatives to exposing stories and creating conversations. Aleah also calls out the complex layers of how black women and black LGBTQ+ members are often not rallied behind as much when they are killed, and also how those that like to utilize and profit off of black culture are silent within this time of outrage. She empathizes and extends her condolences to those mentally exhausted, drained and effected right now, and supports the action and efforts in Minneapolis.
