How many times do you find yourself thinking of a response during a conversation with someone, while they were sharing something with you? You’re not alone, we all do, it’s natural to be in our minds when we’re “supposed” to be present in the conversation.

  • Goal: Open to listen to someone else’s story
  • Skills of listening from the space of others
  • Listening without responding to the story that hasn’t finished
  • Being aware of your own thoughts and putting them aside to be present with the other person to be open to listen to their story
  • Interrupting
  • What is listening vs hearing (interrupting)

Generational gap of acceptance

  • The Story we are making in our heads as parents
  •  The need to defend ourselves or our choices, opinions

___________

  • Stories/situations of when people aren’t listening to you or not listening to yourself/your own thoughts.
  • Listening without thinking of your response/or defensiveness/emotions
  • Reflecting Questions:
    • How can I be wrong?
    • What am I learning from this conversation/person?
    • What am I learning from myself at this moment?
    • How do I show up in spaces? Am I fully present & open to hearing what is being said?
