It is rare that I have trouble deciding on a weekly quote to explore on the podcast because I have too many in mind. Typically I either know exactly what to say, or I have to spend time in quiet reflection thinking of inspiration from the prior week.
This week I had trouble deciding because there are so many quotes I want to unpack.
Often times we measure ourself with someone else’s measuring stick. But surely of all people, you yourself deserve your love.
The ancient Chinese Philosopher, Lao Tzu said, ”Because one believes in oneself, one doesn't try to convince. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn't need others' approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts them.”
Too often we seek others approval to the extent of putting their options of ourself above our own. Don’t let someone else’s opinion of you become your reality.
Before we can expect others to accept us for who we are, we must first accept ourselves.
As the old African Proverb says, “if there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do no harm.”
So this week take stock of who’s approval you are seeking, and instead be content with yourself. Because when you accept yourself, the whole world will accept you.
