Freewriting is one of the most powerful tools for songwriters. It allows us to pour our thoughts, feelings, and ideas onto the page in a free and nonjudgmental way. This tool is also effective in co-writes and leads to efficient collaborations. Freewriting gives songwriters the ability to find song ideas, explore concepts, discover titles and possible lyrics, and more. I’m delighted to welcome my friend and co-writer, Paige Ruderman, onto the show for a fabulous freewriting conversation. After we talk about the benefits of freewriting and why we love this tool and share songs of ours that came from freewriting, we demonstrate how freewriting works in a co-write. I hope you enjoy learning about this amazing tool and listening to Paige and me brainstorm ideas for a song. I love putting the spotlight on songwriting tools and techniques, so I had a blast exploring freewriting with Paige.
