A new episode has arrived. New Theory Radio is back with another #NTRSpotlight edition of the show. This week we profile three creators that are truly pushing the world of arts and culture forward.
We kick-off the show with a conversation that host Nav Nanwa had with multi-faceted artist Jasleen Powar aka Horsepower. This Vancouver-native is a rapper, actor, and the host of First We Feast’s Curry Shop and she just dropped a new album called Lil Miss Canada. We talk to her about that, what inspired the project, and her thoughts on WAP and female empowerment.
And then we welcome singer, songwriter and actor – the multi-talented Rup Magon. You may have heard of Rup as one half of the award-winning duo Josh, or from his previous roles in such movies like Breakaway and The Black Prince. Now he’s playing a duck decoy carver by the name of Amandeep in CBC Gem’s new comedy series Decoys. We chat with him about the show, the role, and how this relates to immigrant experience of a lot of new Canadians.
Lastly, we close out the show welcoming Elizabeth Rodriquez from the Afro-Cuban Roots and Jazz Ensemble OKAN. Their sophomore release Espiral comes out on October 9th, and Elizabeth stops by to chat about the project, the group's rich Cuban roots, and their new single 'Mercedes'.
