Welcome to the month of love and productivity, hello February! We’re super excited about this topic since we really still struggle with it as creatives, and as entrepreneurs, and our clients really struggle with it as well. There can be so many distractions around, including a lot of physical clutter which can create open loops your mental space. Open loops may get tricky to navigate as they can sometimes prevent us from focusing and managing our time well.
Here are 3 easy ways to improve your focus:
* Declutter your space. What clutter often does is inhibit creativity if you can’t see a clear space to just sit down and work, write, draw, paint. There are days where I might spend six or eight hours copywriting. I can’t do that if my space isn’t clean, so I find that lazy cluttering is great, but I often find that decluttering doesn’t take as long as I think it does.
* Morning sit and your Distraction To Do List (a.k.a. brain dump). This could also be combined with something really creative and fun like Julia Cameron’s Morning Pages, or your morning journaling time. It’s when you get to your desk in the morning and get ready to get to work-whether that’s your home office, your kitchen table, or you go to a physical office-it’s literally to just sit down and dump everything that’s going through your head at the moment onto a piece of paper that can be set aside. This is what we call your distraction to do list.
* Relax into better sleep. Financial stress, caffeine, technology, physical and mental clutter have all been shown to keep people up at the midnight hour. Finding what’s stopping you from sleeping and testing are keys to your better sleep. Whether it’s listening to a Headspace meditation app like Minette or writing down your Evening Big 6 To Do Items like Brad, or something else entirely.
