There are some people who keep a certain breed of beings to take care of their properties - much like dogs in a large farm. 

These beings, known as “guardians” in some cultures are said to protect the area and will be in full custody of its owners.  The purpose of these so-called “protectors” are to deter thieves from trespassing into the property. 

Sounds convenient but sadly such things do come with a heavy price.
