In Absolution, Liam Neeson plays the role of Thug, an elderly gangster from Boston whose existence has revolved around crime and brutality. Upon being diagnosed with a terminal illness, Thug feels compelled to reconcile with his past. A key figure in his quest for forgiveness is his estranged daughter Daisy, a single mother facing challenges in raising her children. Thug also wishes to mend his relationship with his grandson, although their connection remains tenuous and largely unaddressed. Adding to the tragedy is the narrative surrounding Thug’s deceased son, whose sexuality seemed to have caused significant distress for the gangster.
