We’re back for part two of our two-part series on the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise and this week we’re tackling the “HD Era” of the wildly popular Rockstar Games series. This week we’re visiting the streets of Liberty City in GTA IV and the beaches of Los Santos in GTA V to talk about two of the best GTA installments and probably some of the best video games of all time. We also spend some time discussing the standalone expansions, the ever-growing GTA: Online, and what we know about the future of the franchise. This was the second rebirth of the series, much like the jump from the “2D Era” to “3D Era”, and it took Rockstar to new heights and set a benchmark for the future of gaming.

In this episode, we break down both games and the added depth and in-game realism, discuss the phenomenal voice acting and performances, explore the addition of online multiplayer, marvel at the design choices and the decision to make each location feel alive and feel a “main character” of the games, and try to wrap our heads around just how many random things you can do in GTA V and GTA:O. We discuss both games’ critical and financial success and unpack what they improved upon with the re-releases of GTA V on PS4 and PS5. We also talk about the added weapons, the cover system, the three-protagonist system, the games that they mashed together to create GTA V, and a bunch more cool stuff that Rockstar added or improved upon.

We also speculate on the future of the franchise and visit some of the leaks and rumours related to the yet-untitled GTA VI. We also wonder just how vast and deep the game will be considering the level of detail that was added to GTA V and the power of the next-gen consoles. You can literally do so much in Los Santos already... so what are we going to get to do next? At various points throughout the episode we go off topic and talk about Big Jim and our plans to see “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water”, reminisce about a birthday party we went to, take a wider look at the Rockstar Games releases, PALMREADER gushes about his newfound obsession with the zombie survival game “Project Zomboid”, and the boys shout out STEVEDAVE and his new album “STEVEDAVE The Album”.
