Episode 85: (Retired) 26-Year Law Enforcement Officer "Lloyd Brawn" Jumps in To Give A Glimpse of Overcoming a Very Dark Period in His Life and How He Did It.
Lloyd Brawn is a man whom I have had the fortune to get to know over the past 9 years and am a far better man for having met him. As a 26-year veteran (now retired) of one of the largest sheriff's departments in the U.S., Lloyd shares a glimpse of an exceedingly dark period of his life and his road out of that pit with listeners of the MYANA podcast.
You will notice a fair amount of knuckle tapping and other fidgeting in this episode, which I have been unable to edit out and, in a way, don't want to because, having spent about 20 years of my life in career positions that kept me in a state of hyper-vigilance, I understand the fidgeting and don't want to dismiss what sustained hyper-vigilance does to a man's nervous system. Plus, this is Lloyd's first time on the podcast and it takes a while to get used to talking to a microphone.
I have been earnestly wanting to bring law enforcement officers onto the podcast, but this has proven to be a tall task. Having stood in their shoes, I understand their reticence to be on the podcast. Lloyd has graciously and courageously stepped to the plate to discuss the fragility of his own humanity as he endured the emotional and physical beatings of a high-stress career and his long-term marriage to a physically violent woman.
