American communists have proposed that appealing to a sense of American patriotism is important for socialist organizing. In this episode, we use a Marxist perspective to uncover deeper questions which lie behind the idea of patriotism, frame US imperialism as a principal contradiction, and understand the role of Black and Indigenous nationalism.
