We are so excited to share today's story with you! We were joined in the studio by our new friend Danya Works. Danya and her family (she has six kids!) moved to Arizona almost exactly a year ago and quickly became connected with Desert Springs. We jump right into Danya's story starting with when she came to know the Lord at age 17. Danya's upbringing was rough being a child of divorce and growing up in the Los Angeles area in the 1990s. She was raised by a single mom and her grandparents who instilled the values of hard work into her. Going to a top-level school and pursuing a career in the corporate world became her ultimate goal and as a teenager she felt her worth came from how she could perform at school. Having a husband and children was something far from her mind. Danya was saved when she attended a church with her friend and almost immediately after that she met her husband, Eugene. How they met is a crazy story you'll have to listen in to find out about! At age 18, Danya married Eugene and soon after they had their first child. Danya still had dreams of getting a college degree and pursuing a career, but she struggled to balance that with being a wife and young mom. Her husband was intent on having a large family and devoted wife, but Danya struggled to accept that. This created a cycle of trying to do it all - being the career woman, mom and wife full-time and all at the same time. She now felt her worth was tied to her performance at work and home. It began to create strain in the family, particularly between Danya and Eugene. Ten years of marriage and three kids in the midst of this cycle brought a breaking point. You will be encouraged as you hear Danya describe how she came to a deeper understanding of her worth in Christ, how she and her husband cultivated a healthy marriage, how the Lord spoke to her about being a mom and how passionate she is about serving God and His people. There is so much to glean from this story as we all need to remember that our worth and value is in Christ alone. We're thankful for Danya and the Works family and look forward to more ministry with them here at Desert Springs!
