We're back from our Winter hiatus!
Join us today, as Will regales us of the tale of John Brown (1800-1859), a (Connecticut-born), Radical Abolitionist in the antebellum United States who took it upon himself to rally an army to raid a federal outpost in Harper's Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1859, with the ultimate goal of starting a liberation movement to end slavery in the United States for good.
Though his raid was ultimately unsuccessful at the time, the extensive media coverage of his actions, subsequent trial and execution contributed greatly to the tensions that led to the US Civil War, the ultimate abolition of slavery in the United States, and his own place in the eyes of Northerners as a Martyr for the Union cause.
Let's dive deep into some US History on this episode of the Local Universe Podcast
