Episode 9 - Laura Breen Brogan: The Yoga Sutra

Listen Later

Laura Breen Brogan is a teacher and practitioner of the Yoga Sutras, a massage therapist, a reiki healer, a mother of thirteen year old twins, and a surfer. You can find Laura teaching a weekly yoga sutras class at Yoga East in Kittery, Maine and offering bodywork at Glow Wellness Center in York, Maine. Laura practices yoga with her primary teacher, Kimberly Dahlmann, at Yoga East. Laura’s first sutra teacher was Karen Rafferty, who she credits with teaching her the practice of the sutras. She has also practiced with Bhavani Maki, who wrote a book about the Yoga Sutra called The Yogi’s Roadmap, which Laura highly recommends. Bhavani breaks the sutras down in depth and connects them to modern life in a very relatable way.

The 196 sutras were originally passed on through the oral tradition, which makes the brevity important, and allows for stringing them together as chanted through practice.
