Michael Bates, probably the best pure wicketkeeper of his era, won two white ball trophies in two seasons with Hampshire before being released as they felt his batting wasn't up to it, then the same happened to him at Somerset. He has gone on to become a highly regarded coach and coached the women's team to a world cup win and Western Storm to KSL wins too.
