Measurable vacuum energy and the need for both renormalization and virtual particles to describe the underlying mechanics of the quantum world tells us that we may have been premature to call anything quantized as also being elementary.  Instead when we investigate the clear evidence for a subquantum realm beyond our ability to ever measure it directly we see the real reason why spacetime is able to bend and warp to the will of mass.  If it were not for a subquantum realm at scale factors likely trillions of times smaller than the electron neutrino then spacetime itself would not be impacted by gravity at all.
