Episode Show Notes
"There is something within you beyond all doubt and fear, something which has never been limited by your acts or destroyed by your feeling. This is the only something that can make you whole" (Ernest Holmes, This Thing Called You, pg. 4).
I. The importance of authenticity and the birthplace of vulnerability within us
"Vulnerability is a state of emotional exposure that comes with a certain degree of uncertainty. It involves a person's willingness to accept the emotional risk that comes from being open and willing to love and be loved." (Brene Brown)
II. Barriers to Vulnerability
“Come to the edge," he said.
“We can't, we're afraid!" they responded.
“Come to the edge," he said.
“We can't, We will fall!" they responded.
"Come to the edge," he said.
And so they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.”
― Guillaume Apollinaire
Be gentle with yourself, especially where it is not physically safe or your vulnerable self hasn’t been earned!
III. Courage and Bravery - turning inward and speaking our truth out loud
"Bravery doesn't ask us to abandon who we are. It means living from the inside out. Brave means, in every uncertain moment, turning inward, feeling for the Knowing, and speaking it out loud. Since the Knowing is specific, personal, and ever-changing, so is bravery. Whether you are brave or not cannot be judged by people on the outside. Sometimes being brave requires letting the crowd think you're a coward. Sometimes being brave means letting everyone down but yourself." - Glennon Doyle
