Volunteering at the Bellevue’s farmers’ market was one of my favorite volunteering experiences I have ever had! I really enjoyed working with the people and the atmosphere was simply amazing! We’ve been talking about profitable businesses a lot in our last episodes, and I wanted to focus our family episode on a great place to sell and a great place to start!
Farmers’ markets are considered as a sustainable business model of networking, building society, trust and encouraging development of rural regions.
In business, location means a lot and sometimes everything! Not only do businesses need to understand where their customer base exists, but they also need to know where their competitors are. Your local farmer’s market will teach you a lot!
It will bring you visibility, customer accessibility and will not cost you much! Farmer’s markets are known to be cost effective. They provide brief periods of intense retail sales with low fixed costs.
Not all farmers market organizations are alike. It is up to you to see what works best with what you are trying to accomplish. Some markets are community-organized; some are farmer-organized; and some are entrepreneurial private businesses. Some lack any organization. Still, even for a short period of time will help you start and give you tons of experience! Local markets bring tons of business opportunities.
The social purpose alone of a market will add a lot of value to your business!
